America in the Interwar Years (1919-1941)

This course will study American culture, politics, society, and foreign policy from the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 to the American declaration of war against Japan and Germany after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Focusing on the radical changes to American culture and society in the 1920s, this course will also take a close look at the presidency of FDR, the New Deal, and the many contributions to society by African-Americans. We will also examine the desire for peace by millions of Americans, as Nazi Germany began to aggrandize power in the 1930s. We will end the course with the strong political divide in the United States between intervention and isolationism that eventually dissipated after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This course will be great for either well-read adults on the subject and also those who are novices and would like to learn more about a highly tumultuous era in American history.
