The New Meets the Historic: Ink Block and South End Walk
Explore with Jim O’Connell one of Boston’s newest neighborhoods—the Ink Block District—along with one of its oldest—the South End. The Ink Block, a former urban renewal and industrial area, has been transformed by hundreds of new residential units, restaurants, shops, and office buildings. The walk will also learn about the historic development of the adjacent South End. It will visit South of Washington Area (SOWA), the magnificently-restored Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Union Park (one of the handsomest and earliest residential squares in the South End), and the restaurant and retail district of Tremont Street. This tour will meet at Tufts Medical Center MBTA Station in front of the DoubleTree Hotel, 821 Washington Street, and end at the Back Bay MBTA Station.
