Instructor Led LEAN Training   

Welcome to Daytona State College’s Center for Business and Industry.

These classes are held at Daytona State College’s main campus. We offer these classes as open enrollment on our campus, and we also can collaborate with you and create customized training for your organization. We are proud of our partnership with industry leading consultant Ernie Richardson.

Ernie has 36 years’ Manufacturing and Human Resources Management experience which allows him to see the cultural dynamics from various functional areas of a company.  He is certified in The Toyota Way, Toyota Business Practices (8 Step Problem Solving), Standardized work, Visual Management, Strategy Deployment (Hoshin), Company culture/climate, and specializes in Toyota Production system thinking. He joined Teaching Lean as a co-owner after his retirement from Toyota in Feb of 2013, to share his experiences learned from his people, Japanese trainers, coordinators, and Executive Coordinators in order to assist other companies on their Lean journey.   He has over 1380 hours of classroom, practical training and Japan Gemba Training with a combined time of over 1-year total in Japan.    Ernie worked at IBM for 8 years before joining Toyota.   

Ernie is the co-author of – The Toyota Engagement Equation – How to understand and implement continuous improvement thinking in any Organization and President of Teaching Lean Inc

This training focuses on the Key Concepts of LEAN (KCL)- Earnie uses the land cruiser simulator to show the importance of standard processes and problem identification. It’s a 2-day course with the first 1/2-day focus on culture. Followed by 5 rounds of kaizen, implementation, standards, 5S, Flow and production. With the team trying to get to a target based on a KPI worksheet.  The focus is on seeing waste and understanding how to improve it. This course is for all industry not just production and is for all level of the organization. The max for this training is 22.  The simulator is measured by a KPI tracker that looks at manpower, defects, work in progress, on-time, late and lost sales.  The learning is stacked by the round and there are 5 rounds of production with a specific takt time. This session can be very customized and also focused on teamwork and learning styles.

The center For Business and Industry will provide an official Certificate of Completion for this class.
