See the world through the eyes of a New York City architect! With New York City as the dynamic backdrop, City College’s architecture career discovery program can help you engage in the people, places, and things that make New York one of the great global cities of architecture. Experience a month-long immersion into the academic, professional, and cultural world of architecture theory and practice. The entire city will serve as the class setting: intense creative projects, interactive field trips, guest speakers, guest critics, workshops and studio sessions form the foundation of the program. Participants will gain new appreciation and understanding of the richness of architecture and gain the practical experience required to make an informed and meaningful career choice. The Summer Career Lab is open to high school juniors and seniors 16 years or older at the start of the program, as well as college students and adults 18 years or older, who are interested in seeing what it’s like to pursue a degree or career in design or who are seeking to develop portfolio materials for college or graduate school applications. No prior experience in architecture, design, or art is necessary. Participants have dedicated workspace in one of the light-filled Spitzer School studios 7 days per week. Students utilize our library, digital design and fabrication labs, and model shop to develop projects, in addition to our digital cameras and computer labs to document them for their portfolios. Areas of emphasis include hand craft, digital fabrication, interdisciplinary research, and ecologically and culturally sustainable practices.
