Illuminating Italian Women Artists

Medieval and Renaissance Italy was not a promising place for female artists. Women were expected to marry and have children. If they did work, they were not allowed to participate in male dominated professions such as painting, sculpturing and architectural design. Some women did emerge in the artistic community and were able to break the mold of subjugation. Explore their world and discover their accomplishments and artistic creations.
