Syllabus

We're all going to die, and we don't know when, says Rev. Bodhi Be, a mentor of the instructor and director of perhaps the only non-profit funeral home. Given that important and poignant truth, there are many things we can do to prepare ourselves and save our loved ones time and stress.In this class, we will explore legal documentation, practical considerations, relational networks, wishes for your memorial and your body's disposition, and much more. All of this information is valuable to anyone regardless of age or state of health. The class will also provide free or inexpensive tools to help you complete and maintain your end-of-life preparations. This course is a partnership with Edmonds College.

Learn basic first aid for medical emergencies. Adult, Child, and Infant CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training methods are covered. Discuss illness, injury and many environmental and emotional considerations. Proper technique for choking emergencies is included. Upon completion, students will receive a two-year Certification Card that follows the American Heart Association guidelines.

Learning the ancient Japanese hands on healing of Reiki will help you to awaken and enhance your natural healing abilities. Reiki helps to reduce stress, pain and chronic conditions while promoting relaxation and wellness for the body, mind and spirit. This class is a great benefit to individuals for self-health or professionals to include Reiki in their practice. No experience necessary. Includes certificate of completion.

Learn the concepts and principles of adult home management. Examine the roles and responsibilities of a licensed provider, the licensing process, business operations of the home, staff management, resident care issues, and resident rights. Students will be assessed on their proficiency prior to the start of class in English, reading, writing, and math. You must have a 6th grade level (ABE 3) in English and a 4th grade Level (ABE 2) in math. Basic computer skills are also required including accessing the internet, MS Word and MS Excel.

Specialty training for professionals working in long-term care settings (Adult Family Homes and Assisted Living) with people experiencing dementia. This DSHS-approved certification curriculum will enable students to explore the different types of dementias. You will learn communication techniques, behavioral interventions, deal with hallucinations, delusions, medications, and understand approaches in care as you assist folks with their activities of daily living (ADLs). This training applies to providers, resident managers, and caregivers.

Specialty training for professionals working, in long-term care settings (Adult Family Homes and Assisted Livings) with people experiencing mental disorders. This DSHS-approved certification curriculum will enable students to obtain an introduction to the most common psychiatric disorders recognized in the populations served. You will review condition symptoms, treatment options, care giving considerations, communication skills, multicultural considerations, resident struggles, medications and caregiver self care. This training applies to providers, resident managers and caregivers.
