Welding   

Course Description: 

This hands-on lab course is designed for learners seeking basic foundational skills in welding for personal development, trade advancement, or entry-level employment. Students will gain practical experience with basic welding techniques and equipment in including Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GWAW/MIG), and Flux-Corded Arc Welding (FCAW) or Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). 

Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students will learn safe shop practices, proper equipment handling, joint preparation, and welding in various positions. Emphasis is placed on safety, technique, and skill development through guided lab exercises. This course is ideal for beginners or those looking to refresh their skills. 

Prerequisites: None. No prior welding experience required. 

Course Format: In-person lab-based instruction

Please Note: This is a non-credit course intended for continuing education and workforce training. It does not count toward a degree program. 

Course Location: CTE Building on Pasco Campus. Room CTE #406 Welding Lab

Tools Required: A list of tools and gear required for for the course will be emailed to you after registration.

This course provides the welder qualification testing to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) section IX code standards. Welders must supply their own PPE and tools. Consumable materials will be provided. 

Please note this is an 8-hour one day course offered on specific dates throughout the quarter. Please contact Clarissa Pruneda (cpruneda@columbiabasin.edu) for scheduling. 

Testing will take place in the CTE Building in the Welding Lab Room #406.

This course also includes 20 hours of welding booth time to practice before the welder qualification test. 

The welding lab will be available to use Monday-Thursday:

•   6:30 am to 3:30 pm (not available 10:20 am to 11:30 am)
•   6:30 pm to 9:30 pm
