The American Heart Association's (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) course is designed for healthcare providers caring for patients both in pre-hospital and in-facility environments. Students entering healthcare fields at CBC will need this course before attending internship/clinical. This is a community education course; it is non-credit bearing and does not apply toward degrees and certificates.
This course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. In the instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

Course Content:
- High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
- The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
- Use of an AED
- Effective ventilations using a barrier device
- Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
- Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
Cost and No Shows/Refund Policy:
Course cost: $95. No shows will not receive a refund. You must drop the class a minimum of 48 hours prior to the class, or you will not receive a refund for your registration. If after registering you are unable to attend, please email ce@columbiabasin.edu using the email associated with your CampusCE account or your CBC student email. You must include the name of the class you wish to drop, your full name, and either your date of birth or your CBC student ID number.
Required Materials:
2020 BLS Provider Manual which may be purchased at the CBC Bookstore, you must bring a copy of the book to class.
Time Required:
Full BLS Provider course takes approximately 4.5 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing.
Certification:
After successful course completion, you will be awarded a Healthcare Provider BLS CPR card with a two-year validation.
