This program aligns with the FMSCA Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) Regulations.
It includes, ELDT theory training (Online Modules), ELDT road and range skills training up to 25 hours, and CDL test scheduling with our truck and trailer for a CDL Class A-O license (with manual restriction). An A/O (Formerly known as A-57) license applies to drivers who do not require a class A license, but who haul an excess of 10,001 pounds or more. Examples are: F450 pick-up truck hauling a 10,001 or more pound trailer, an electric department truck hauling a 10,000 pound forklift on a flatbed trailer, etc.
Currently there is no time requirement on ELDT training, the regulations state that training should last until the instructor deems you competent in all ELDT skills. For more information about the new regulations click here
(Note: The costs associated with getting the necessary CDL Class A permit, taking the air brakes written test, DOT Medcard, provide a copy of your Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and taking the CDL skills test are still your responsibility.)
To begin theory training after registration, send a copy of your current license, DOT Medcard, and MVR to WorkforceDev@ColumbiaState.edu. Once we receive these items, you will be assigned the theory modules. The online theory modules help with studying for the permit test, so a permit is not necessary to start theory training, but is required to start skills training. Modules take between 15 - 20 hours and must be completed within 1 month of registration.
If additional CDL skills training is needed after the initial 25 hours, additional training time can be purchased in 10 hour blocks for $500.
