MAKING YOUR MARK: SURFACE EMBELLISHMENT

This workshop introduces students of all levels to pattern and texture as a vital element of jewelry design through a rich variety of techniques. Special focus will be on using the rolling mill to texture sheet metal. Make patterns from paper, organic materials, metal and more and pass them through the rolling mill to create beautiful textured surfaces that can be fashioned into a variety of jewelry pieces. Roller embossing, stamping, etching, solder inlay will be demonstrated and explained. You will be encouraged to make samples and experiment with incorporating these techniques into your own jewelry or sculpture. You should bring your own jewelry hand tools and a variety of sheet metal and wire. A specific class material and tool list will be sent to each student prior to the class.
