Guided Autobiography as a Therapeutic Tool: An Experiential Writing Workshop   NEW!

The philosopher, Kierkegaard, said, “Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forward.” Guided autobiography provides a framework for gaining understanding of the paths taken throughout a lifetime and is a useful tool as homework in counseling and psychotherapy.

Since the first published randomized control trial in 1986 that showed health benefits of writing about life’s traumatic events, over 200 additional studies have surfaced demonstrating the positive power of the pen on physical and emotional health. Reflective writing can also help improve working memory because it can reduce intrusive and avoidant thinking about stressful experiences, thus freeing up working memory resources.

This experiential workshop will demonstrate reflective writing/guided autobiography techniques that can be used as an adjunct to individual counseling.
