Help Your Clients Build Their Best Life: Using DBT, MI, and Positive Psychology to Promote Well-Being

Mental and behavioral health has received much less clinical attention than mental/behavioral “disorders.” The former is necessary for long-term, committed growth and consistent, effective treatment progress.

Dialectical behavioral (DBT) and motivational interviewing (MI) techniques can improve intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, build strong rapport, and increase readiness to change. Positive psychology techniques may influence “happiness” indicators such as subjective well-being.

This program will focus on how to utilize and integrate DBT, MI, and positive psychology interventions to improve client growth and facilitate better treatment outcomes in your practice. Emphasis will be placed on theory, outcomes, and techniques related to improving client motivation and readiness to change, strengthening rapport, and integrating health promotion with symptom reduction. You’ll walk away with strategies to assist your clients to autonomously utilize their strengths to build lives worth living well.

This program is appropriate for practitioners (social workers, counselors, psychologists, marriage family therapists) and other (para)professionals who desire to improve attention to health promotion as well as symptom reduction with clients.
