Mind, Body and Spirit: Using the Yoga Lifestyle in Clinical Practice

Yoga took the west by storm three decades ago and, as a result of many life improvements noted by people taking to this new “exercise fad,” was ultimately studied extensively in clinical settings to clinically assess the perceived benefits.

Countless studies show that yogic practices enhance muscular strength and body flexibility, promote and improve respiratory and cardiovascular function, promote recovery from and treatment of addiction, reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, improve sleep patterns, and enhance overall well-being and quality of life. This is a general training that will enhance your knowledge and awareness of the 8 limbs of yoga and how they can be applied in clinical settings to help with emotional regulation, detachment from harmful habits/relationships, build self-esteem, reduce anxiety/ depression, regulate sleep, build physical strength and much more.

Clients often reports a general increased sense of peace and well-being when yoga is integrated into clinical work and can have immediate positive effects with low/no risk of side effects when directed by well-trained clinicians. Contraindications will be reviewed to assist with identifying what clients may not be a good candidate for yoga therapy and/or may need to have participation approved by their physician prior to integrating yoga into clinical work.

This program is appropriate for clinicians with no exposure or background with yoga but some experience and exposure is preferred.

Also helpful but not necessary: bring a yoga mat and any props used in your own practice.
