Intermediate Chinese II (matching HSK Chinese Proficiency Level IV)

Intermediate Chinese II (matching HSK Chinese Proficiency Level IV) is a 10-week higher level Mandarin Chinese class where learners can discuss a relatively wide range of topics in Chinese and are capable of communicating in Chinese at a high level. Learners from CSU and communities are expected to have completed Intermediate Chinese I as a prerequisite, and have a strong intention to continually improve their Chinese language skills and expand their knowledge. The class will be taught almost entirely in Chinese so that students will be more exposed to the target language. After the completion of this course, students should be able to use around 1000-1200 Chinese words in daily conversation as well as paragraph level writing. Cultural insights at this level cover a good variety of topics. Students will be able to give presentations on selected topics in Chinese. Students who complete this course are encouraged to take the HSK Level IV test. A discount code is available for (1) those taking multiple CI courses at the same time or in last semester, (2) community members 60 years old or above. Email Dr. Li at
