The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Cal State East Bay welcomes community members and educators who want to share their time, talents, and knowledge with lifelong learners.

Interested in Teaching with OLLI?

OLLI invites course proposals throughout the academic year. Program scheduling may take place up to six months before the program delivery date.

We are currently seeking course proposals in the following subject areas:

  • World Cultures
  • Writing
  • Literature
  • Arts
  • Sciences
  • Contemporary Issues / Popular Culture
  • Social & Political History

OLLI Program Terms

Fall Session - mid-September through mid-December
Spring Session - February - April
Summer Session - June - August

Course Formats and Scheduling

OLLI courses are typically three to six weeks in length and are offered in the following regular time slots:

  • 10 a.m.–12 p.m. PST, in person at the Concord Center of Cal State East Bay
  • 1–3 p.m. PST, in person at the Concord Center of Cal State East Bay
  • 3–5 p.m. PST, online via Zoom

By arrangement, OLLI may also be able to offer an additional online time slot from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. PST.

Start dates are flexible. The Concord Center is open Monday through Thursday. Classes are typically not held during University breaks and holidays.

OLLI courses and lectures may be offered in one of two formats:

Single Lecture: A 90-minute lecture offered at the Concord Center
Course: Two-hour sessions meeting once per week for three to six weeks at the Concord Center or online via Zoom

Proposal Submission Timelines

Fall Session - July 15
Spring Session - November 15
Summer Session - March 15

Course Expectations

OLLI courses do not include homework or tests. The most successful courses are interactive, unique, and offer learners a behind-the-scenes look at the subject matter.

Course selection is based on the following criteria:

  • The offering is academic in nature
  • The course is not already well-served in the community
  • The course explores a topic of interest to OLLI members

Instructor Stipends

Course stipend: $125 per course hour
One-time 90-minute lecture stipend: $190

If you would like to share your expertise and time with OLLI, we would love to hear from you.

Please submit your initial course proposal using the Course Proposal form. Future proposals may be submitted as a PDF email attachment to olli@csueastbay.edu.
