Introduction to Neuropsychology

Neuropsychology is the study of brain-behavior relationships. Knowledge of brain disorders and how these affect emotional and cognitive functioning is essential to mental health staff working with these clients. Topics reviewed in this workshop will include neuro-anatomy, cognitive functions, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimers’ disease, basic neuropsycho-logical tests, and criteria for making neuropsychological referrals. Neuropsychological interpretation will be demonstrated in the context of multiple case examples. Participants will try their own hands individually or in small groups at interpreting test data from a case study, which will later be reviewed in the full class. The workshop will be interactive, and highlighted with brief musical selections from several genres. No prior knowledge of neuropsychology is required to enjoy this interesting and informative workshop.
