Campus History & Tour

More than thirty years ago, local civic leaders called for a public four-year college to serve the students and employers of the Coachella Valley. The group's efforts led to California State University, San Bernardino establishing a branch campus in Palm Desert. Today, the campus offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as a doctor in education degree. The CSUSB Palm Desert campus is a model partnership between the state and the community, and is the only public university campus in the nation to be built exclusively through private donations. Coachella Valley residents, foundations, and desert cities contributed over $45 million to construct the first four buildings. Now, the state furnishes and maintains the buildings and provides the faculty and administrative personnel to run the programs. Come and hear the story from Dick Oliphant, who helped make it happen, and meet the students who study here today. You'll also meet our new campus dean, Dr. Jake Zhu. Following the presentation, a guided walking tour of the campus will be led by student ambassadors.
