Together, we will learn why we sleep, the stages or phases of sleep, the common sleep disorders, and what can be done to improve them.  The discussion will include the pros and cons of various medications used to induce or improve sleep and basic sleep hygiene.

Richard S. Sinacola, MSW, M.Div., Ph.D., is a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Cal State University San Bernardino and a licensed psychologist with a practice here in Palm Desert.  Dr. Sinacola has taught physiological psychology and psychopharmacology for many years and specializes in treating anxiety and sleep related disorders in his practice. He is the author of several articles and publications, including Basic Psychopharmacology for Mental Health Professionals (Pearson) and The Five Cs of a Healthy Relationship (Cognella Academic Publishing). Fr. Sinacola is also pastor of St. Giles Catholic Community, a progressive National Catholic community here in the Coachella Valley.
