The Gospel of Mark as Literature

The Gospel of Mark is the first written gospel, and Matthew, Luke and John are based on Mark. We will study the Gospel of Mark as a work of literature and not as a religious text. The story, literary themes, literary structures, and the author's use of ancient sources to construct the events in the life of Jesus the Nazarene will be examined. Literary structures constructed by the author of the gospel can be used to detect possible redaction of the original text, and we will discover what may be the original Gospel as the author intended it.
