Creative Play: Helping Children Communicate Through Play

Creative play is critical to children’s development. This workshop will present materials to assist participants in understanding the importance of play in child development and the work of play for children. We’ll identify the problems that occur when children cannot play appropriately due to issues of abuse and/or neglect. Participants will learn the theoretical importance of play therapy. Psychologists, social workers, and counselors will learn how to use different toys to help the interview process and how those toys can also help children work through emotional issues. Participants will also learn how to create a therapeutic toy box that will help children express their emotions related to abuse and/or neglect.
