|ONLINE Women's Health and the Law
Please Note: This class has been moved online. Through lectures, discussions, stories, videos, and songs, this course will examine women's legal status in the U.S. from 1776 to the present, and the impacts of laws and Supreme Court decisions on women's health ("physical, mental, and emotional well-being, not just the absence of disease.") The course will also analyze how scientific and medical information and mis-information about women's health have influenced laws about women's rights and choices. Examples of course topics are pregnancy, family leave, equal pay, contraception, abortion, rape, and sexual harassment laws, toxic chemicals and women's health, Title IX and health benefits of participation in sports, and how the Affordable Health Care Act has benefitted women's health. Organizations that are working to improve women's legal status will be described, and a list of recommended books, films, and websites will be provided.
