Paper-making and Collage Workshop: Learn the History and Create Your Own Paper   

Uncover the fascinating evolution of paper, a timeless medium with a history dating back to 105AD.

Join us in this engaging and hands-on workshop where you'll delve into the rich tapestry of paper's varied uses - from currency to books, and even clothing. Through hands-on exploration, you'll witness the remarkable journey of paper-making, understanding its historical significance and enduring appeal. You'll immerse yourself in the art of crafting your very own paper, infusing it with your unique touch and creativity. By the end of this workshop, you'll hold in your hands a tangible piece of history and artistry - your own bespoke paper creation.

Collage is the coming together of a variety of materials. A collage can employ paper, paint, sewing, words, and a variety of found materials.We will discuss collage and composition as you work on your own paper collage piece in between your paper screen “dips.” The pages we will make are 5"x7".

Student-supplied Materials:

  • Several pieces of stiff cardboard to take home your 5"x7" pieces of paper home to dry
  • Any materials you might want to include in your paper. Some ideas are dried flowers, confetti, small pieces of fabric, small words or print images, colored inks, small collage materials, essential smelly oils...anything you might want to embed in your piece of wet paper pulp.
  • Also, please bring a variety of paper, glue, scissors and other materials that appeal to you to work on your own paper collage as well.

There is a co-registration option for a 5-12th grader to attend for $20 when an adult registers for the workshop for $30.The adult must be present with co-registered participant.
