Explore this fascinating city located in the northern Bavarian region of Franconia, known for its world-famous wines and beer, beautiful scenery, and rebirth after the devastation by Allied bombers in WW II. We’ll explore interesting areas around Würzburg including Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage site and sample the world-famous “smoked beer” (rauchbier) or Schlenkerla. A visit to Bronnbach Monastery, a former abbey founded in 1151 by Cistercian monks, nestled deep in the Tauber valley, is part of this historic tour. We’ll soak in the stunning views of the lovely Würzburg hillside vineyards along the Main River from the Alte Mainbrücke (Old Main Bridge), a 12th-century, pedestrian-only stone bridge. A visit to the former Leighton Barracks, where U.S. soldiers were stationed, and a lovely wine tasting with a group farewell dinner in a local winery will round out the tour. This week-long journey includes a day trip to Nuerenburg, too, plus much more! Relax for 7 days in Hotel Walfisch Würzburg, located along the Main River with a picturesque view of the Marienberg Fortress and surrounding vineyards. The hotel is in the center of the city, close to the Ringpark and within the historic area known as the “Bishop’s Miter.” Join us for this incredible Lifelong Learning travel experience!
