Medical Administrative Assistant  

Medical administrative assistants primarily work in doctors offices, clinics, outpatient settings, hospitals, and other healthcare settings. Medical Administrative Assistants are an in-demand occupation throughout our nine-county region. According to the department of labor, this is an in-demand occupation, with a projected growth rate of 35% from 2016 to 2026, and median pay of $34,590 per year.

The Medical Administrative Assistant Program FLCCs MAA program prepares students to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the healthcare industry. It provides students a well-rounded introduction to medical administration and covers the following key areas and topics:

- History and background of the medical assisting profession, medical ethics, and basic medical law

- Telephone techniques and skills for scheduling appointments

- Medical terminology

- Basics of insurance billing and coding

- Medical records management and management of practice finances

During COVID-19 operations at FLCC, this session of the Medical Administrative Assistant training will NOT be in person. This class will be taken as an on-line version of the program from your home or office. Any required labs and Internships will be in person with appropriate social distancing.

The expectation is that you have access to a desktop computer, tablet, or laptop equipped with an internal or external microphone. It is preferred that your equipment has a camera, but is not required. A cell phone is not sufficient. Textbooks will be shipped directly to your mailing address.
