An introduction to the basic of Conversational American Sign Language (ASL) and how to apply it for social purposes.

This course is designed for students with little or no previous experience in the language.

Learning ASL is a helpful skill for communication with the ASL community at large. This course will focus on developing basic conversational vocabulary and grammatical structures, syntax rules, fingerspelling, facial expressions, and the awareness of Deaf Culture. With some practice, signing with the instructor and other students to keep a conversation going will help you improve your conversational sign language skills. Topics revolve around sharing information such as hobbies, favorites, holidays, activities, common phrases and more, giving you a variety of vocabulary to learn. The more you sign the more it becomes natural to you!

Are you looking to boost your Conversational Spanish skills? Do you have some understanding of Spanish but are looking to improve?

This course is appropriate for students who have already taken introductory courses in Spanish. Each weekly meeting will discuss short stories, essays, or other reading selections in Spanish. The focus will be reading comprehension, cultural awareness, and speaking/writing in Spanish. Key vocabulary and grammatical structures will be reviewed as needed. Reading materials for each week will be selected from diverse Spanish Speaking countries.
