High-Beginner ESL: Build your English: Life and School

This class will help you build every day and academic English skills. You will practice real communication tasks through:
     • Introducing yourself and sharing information about your experiences
     • Writing an email to schedule a meeting
     • Interviewing a classmate and taking notes about their life
     • Writing a two-paragraph profile about a classmate

This course focuses on the four necessary skills for language learning: speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Your own life, family, and community are the content of this course.

NOTE: No class on Monday, September 7th for Labor Day holiday.

This 13-week class will help prepare you for college level classes. You will build advanced academic skills and grow your language use by: 

• Reading a short novel and analyzing the story and character profiles 

• Writing organized essays, including informational, compare and contrast, and perspective essays 

• Sharing your ideas through public speaking presentations 

• Building academic skills like annotating, outlining, and reviewing your own writing 

This course focuses on the four necessary skills for language learning: speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Your knowledge, stories, and perspectives are part of the course's content, not just background information.
