Click for Course Description: Safe Zone is an educational program provided by the Great Falls LGBTQ+ Center. The purpose of Safe Zone is to foster safe
and inclusive environments in the surrounding communities for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning
people and their friends and families. In Safe Zone trainings we teach participants about LGBT topics including, but not limited
to: what sexual orientation and gender are as well as what that means for individuals and the spaces they navigate. We also
talk about how to be an ally for people that may not be understood or may not have a voice in our communities. The purpose of the Safe Zone Training program is to create allies for oppressed, marginalized, and silenced groups. Allies are remarkably effective at promoting positive change in the dominant culture. Safe Zone acknowledges the intersectionality of diversity by educating and fostering respect for multifaceted personal identities (e.g., sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnic identity, class, religion, ability status, etc.). By placing a Safe Zone sticker or button on an office door, backpack, or laptop, Safe Zone allies signify they are someone who will support and advocate for people with oppressed, marginalized, or silenced identities. The class gives 3 CEUs per the state of Montana for licensed therapists. |
