Fly-Fishing Western Trout Streams
The Western region of the US (Oregon, WA, California, Idaho, Montana, & Wyoming) holds some of the best moving water trout fisheries I the world. Famous rivers like the Yellowstone, Madison, Big Hole, Missouri, Deschutes and Yakima to name a few. All unique in character, but all with some universal qualities that carry over from river to river. This workshop will focus the skills and knowledge required to be successful regardless of where you go in the west for trout. We will discuss Tackle & Equipment, Important insect hatches and flies to match, Season timing, and the 4 strategies for fishing: Nymphing, Dry Fly, Streamer, and Emergers. Class will include a resource notebook loaded with info. After the classroom session, there will be unique optional outing. We will float the Yakima River and have hands on instruction and practice with the 4 strategies. *The outing is considered an intermediate level course. Prior casting instruction or competency is required. Instructor has 30 years of experience guiding and leading Western Fly Fishing tours.
