This mandatory 54-hour training course is required for those wishing to become licensed as a Washington State Adult Family Home owner. Additional Adult Family Home (AFH) Administrator training requirements include the ability to pass an English and reading exam. All training material is provided in class.
This is a non-credit class, which means that you do not need to be a Green River College student in order to enroll. You will receive a certificate after successful completion of the course. This certificate for the Adult Family Home Administrator Training currently does not expire.
English Proficiency: The Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) requires that all students must provide proof of English proficiency through an English proficiency exam, in order to take the AFH course. Please note, DSHS does not accept transcripts in lieu of the English Proficiency exam.
Completion of the English Proficiency exam is required the day before the start of the Canvas/Zoom orientation, at the latest. Please make arrangements to take the English Proficiency exam before the Canvas/Zoom orientation, which is usually offered the Tuesday before the Friday AFH course begins.Detailed instructions on the English requirement will be sent to registered students after enrollment and a month before the first day of class.
Please note, the English requirement can ONLY be fulfilled by taking the English proficiency exam at GRC and scoring 72 or higher. If you fail to meet the English proficiency requirement the Monday before the Canvas/Zoom orientation, you will be ineligible to receive a refund and you will be switched to the next available Training class.
Attendance Requirement: Students must attend 85% of classes in order to receive their certificate. This means that students cannot miss more than one day of class(8 hours).
Homework Assignments: Unless stated otherwise, all homework assignments are due by the following class. Please note, there is a homework help class on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:00p.m., please attend if you have questions or need assistance.
Technology: Computer literacy is required for this course. There will be an hour-long orientation class dedicated to showing students how to use Zoom and navigate Canvas. All students are required to take this class prior to the first day of the Adult Family Home Training class.
A cell phone will not be adequate to complete this course. If you do not have a computer/laptop and would like to take this course, please contact ce@greenriver.edu to arrange gaining access to one of Green River College's computer labs.
Registration for this class will close a week prior to the start date to allow us to process all required documentation.
