This mandatory 54-hour training course is required for those wishing to become licensed as a Washington State Adult Family Home owner. Additional Adult Family Home (AFH) Administrator training requirements include the proof of English proficiency. All training material is provided in class.
This is a non-credit class, which means that you do not have to be a Green River College student in order to enroll. You will receive a certificate after successful completion of the course. Currently, the Adult Family Home Administrator Training certificate does not expire.
English Proficiency: The Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) requires that all students provide proof of English proficiency, in order to take the AFH course.
At GRC, the proof of English proficiency is fulfilled by taking the College Success Test, and scoring 72 or higher. Completion of the English Proficiency assessment is required before the start of the Adult Family Home Administrator training course. Detailed instructions on the English Proficiency requirement will be sent to registered students after enrollment and no later than two weeks before the first day of class. If you do not fulfill the English proficiency requirement, you will be ineligible to receive your certificate until it is completed.
Attendance Requirement: Students must attend 85% of classes in order to receive their certificate. This means that students cannot miss more than one day of class (8 hours).
Homework Assignments: Unless stated otherwise, all homework assignments are due by the following class. Please note, there is a homework help class on Tuesdays from 6:00 to 7:30p.m. Please attend if you have questions or need assistance.
Technology: Computer literacy, a Computer with a web camera and microphone, and access to email are required for this course. There will be an orientation dedicated to showing students how to use Canvas and Zoom. All students are required to participate in the orientation.
A cell phone is not adequate to complete this course. If you do not have a computer/laptop and would like to take this course, please contact ce@greenriver.edu to inquire about gaining access to one of Green River College's computer labs.
Registration for this class will close a week prior to the start date to allow us to process all required documentation.
