CompTIA A+ is the industry standard for establishing a career in IT, and it is the foundation of an IT career.  A+ candidates are better prepared to troubleshoot and problem solve a wider variety of issues, ranging from networking and operating systems to mobile devices and security.

Brought to you in partnership with Community Colleges of Spokane, a CompTIA Authorized Academy, this course provides the basic knowledge to install, configure, and support computer hardware and operating systems.  Including the assembling of components based on user requirements; installing, configuring and maintaining devices, PCs, and software for end users; understanding the basics of network security/forensics; properly and safely diagnosing, resolving, and documenting common hardware and software issues; applying troubleshooting skills; providing appropriate customer support; and understanding the basics of virtualization, desktop imaging, and deployment.

After completing this course, you will know how to:

• Prepare a study plan for the two CompTIA A+ exams.
• Safely work on a computer and resolve issues using standard troubleshooting methodology.
• Identify the motherboard and CPU components, troubleshoot issues related to their function, and replace them.
• Identify the different power connections, install a power supply unit, and troubleshoot power issues.
• Identify the different memory types, configure system BIOS/UEFI, install RAM, and troubleshoot common memory issues.
• Identify the various computer expansion types and associated cables and connectors, and install expansion cards in desktop and laptop computers.
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot physical storage devices, and set up RAID arrays.
• Connect, configure, and troubleshoot common input-output devices.
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot display devices.
• Identify features of the various client operating systems, and install Windows.
• Manage and troubleshoot client operating systems using command-line tools, built-in Windows administrative tools, and Windows Control Panel utilities.
• Describe the various network types, Internet connection types, and network devices.
• Describe the various network cable and connector types.
• Configure and troubleshoot issues related to network transmission protocols.
• Describe the various wireless networking standards and encryption methods.
• Configure and troubleshoot Windows client networking.
• Describe the virtualization and Cloud computer concepts.
• Identify the various types of mobile devices and operating systems, and set up, configure, and troubleshoot mobile devices.
• Identify the various security threats and implement threat protection.
• Secure computers and mobile devices, and troubleshoot security issues.
• Configure SOHO network security.
• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot printers and multifunction devices.
• Identify specific requirements and select custom computer components to meet computing needs.
• Follow standard operating procedures when working with customers.

Note:

You will receive an exam voucher for each A+ exam (220-1001 and 220-1002) at the end of the class so that you may take the exams at a later date.  Additional virtual lab access is also included.

The class book meets CompTIA’s strict quality standards receive the CompTIA Approved Quality Content (CAQC) seal. CAQC training materials are reviewed by industry experts, cover all exam objectives, integrate instructional design principles as well as instructional reviews that help you judge your learning comprehension and readiness for the certification exam.

Two exams are needed to certify; exam vouchers (220-1001 and 220-1002) and books are included (over a $450 value!).

Prerequisites:

Prerequisites include current IT Essentials Certification or equivalent with instructor permission. 

Online:

This course is self-paced and mentor-led in Canvas.  The instructor is available during the course to answer questions via email, phone or Zoom depending on student/instructor availability.
