Desire a career in forensics? Instruction on the basics of fingerprint science (friction ridge) and how to apply those skills while testing for an entry level position in fingerprint forensics. Entry level job salary is approximately $55,000 in a criminal justice agency.  On completion you will earn a CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION from Green River College, Continuing Education.

Average weekly time on reading, assignments/exercises is 4 hours – not including zoom session of

 1-1/2 hour per week.

Topics:

• Basic understanding of fingerprint science –history, pattern typing, friction ridge counting
• Analyze, examine and comparison of fingerprints
• Analyze your own fingerprints, from a fingerprint 10 print card -pattern type, and ridge count
• your own fingerprints.
• Perform several exercises to obtain your own fingerprints with different techniques
• Documentation, note taking, charting/diagraming your results
• Examples of previous job tests will be discussed
• How and where to locate available jobs – a list of references/resources is included
• Know what ‘key’ words to input into your application, how to apply and answer the questions
• Compose a resume and a cover letter as a resource for future applications
• Numerous other fingerprint science aspects to be gone over in reading, zoom class, exercises

Note: There isn’t a set standard of testing at agencies. Tests vary at each agency. Each agency has their own standard of requirements.  A Bachelor’s Degree or higher is preferred but not required by many agencies.

All Supplies are included in the $60 lab fee.  You will receive your kit the lst day of class, in person, upon payment in cash to your instructor. Please bring exact amount in cash – no $100 bills.

• 2 magnifiers, a set of ridge counters, clear ruler, pens, pencil, colored pencils
• 10 print fingerprint cards, pre-inked disposable ink strips, fingerprint powder and brush
• Sheet protectors, paper, tape
• Thumb drive (already loaded) with 3 books, all weekly sessions agenda, exercises and answers
• Spiral bound hard copies of exercises and reading materials
