Emergency Medical Technician

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are essential members of the emergency response system, providing immediate medical care and helping patients during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. Their training allows them to assess injuries and illnesses, stabilize patients, and deliver critical care before arrival at a medical facility.

This one-semester EMT program through Summit Medical Academy offers an accelerated pathway into the profession, but prospective students should understand that it is a rigorous commitment. Equivalent to approximately 5 college credits, the course requires about 8 hours of in-person instruction each week, plus up to 10 hours of homework, reading, and skills practice. Students will be exposed to realistic emergency medicine scenarios and sensitive or graphic topics as part of their preparation for EMT practice.

For students who cannot commit to a weekly classroom schedule, Summit Medical Academy also offers a hybrid option. Students complete approximately 160-180 hours of online coursework at their own pace, followed by a single extended hands-on training and testing session held Thursday through Sunday. This format provides a flexible pathway for students from anywhere in Montana who are unable to attend weekly classes while still meeting the practical skills requirements of EMT training.

If you have questions about whether EMT training is the right fit for you, we encourage you to contact Summit Medical Academy before enrolling. Find out more on their website: Summit Medical EMT Courses
