Semi truck with Helena College logo on the side If you don't have access to a Class A vehicle for your Drive exam, we can give you the exam in our truck. Our Rental Vehicle Specifications: We provide a 1997 Freightliner FL120 Conventional Tractor with a 2406E Caterpillar engine. It does not have Jake brakes. It is equipped with air brakes, a 10-speed manual transmission, and a sleeper tractor. The attached trailer is a 28-foot dry van. Both are single axle. (see photo)

Hazmat Endorsement

Hazmat Endorsement is not included in our Class A Licensing Program, but can be added after earning your license by following these steps:

Enroll in our FMCSA-approved ONLINE ELDT HazMat course through this link: Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) for Hazardous Materials
Apply for and pass the TSA Hazardous Materials Endorsement Threat Assessment Program This step involves being fingerprinted and may take up to 60 days for approval.
Pass the MVD Written Knowledge Test - score at least 80% on the 30-question exam.

Full CDL Driving Examination with OUR Tractor/Trailer

Includes Pre-Trip, Skills, and Drive Test in a VEHICLE SUPPLIED BY Helena College.

To test in our vehicle, you must hold a Montana Commercial Driver's License Class A Learner's Permit for at least 14 days. To test using our vehicle, you cannot have air brake or manual restrictions on your permit.

This rental fee does not apply to students taking the full Class A or UPGRADE classes with us.

Once your test is paid, we will reach out to you to schedule your exam. In general, testing is currently available Mondays - morning and afternoon. Please have permit number and issue/expiration dates available when scheduling.

Full CDL Driving Exam

Includes Pre-Trip, Skills, and Drive Test in YOUR OWN VEHICLE. We can test you in your Class A or Class B vehicle - except for a school bus or other passenger bus.

To test, you must hold a Montana Commercial Driver’s License Learner’s Permit for at least 14 days.

RETAKE CDL Driving Exam
Fee: $45.00
Dates: Testing available Mondays
Times: Choose morning or afternoon

This fee is only assessed if you do not pass any portion of the exam and would like to reschedule. If you have already passed your Pre-Trip and Skills exam, but fail the driving portion, you will be required (by law) to wait a minimum of 7 days to re-take the driving portion. Your retake will be scheduled after payment has been received.
**This price only applies to examinees who took their first test with Helena College. Regular full price applies to all who are scheduling with us for the first time.
