The Patient Care Technician is a multi-disciplinary technical worker trained to provide basic nursing assistant care as well as other skilled functions. The role of the Patient Care Technician includes duties traditionally performed by the staff from several different departments such as nursing, phlebotomy, EKG and respiratory. This program not only builds upon the basic nurse aid skills but also includes an introductory computer class intended to develop basic computer literacy enhancing the student’s skills. This is the latest trend in health care re-engineering.
To receive a Patient Care Technician Certificate you must successfully complete the following:
• Certified Nursing Assistant
• Phlebotomy
• Electrocardiogram (EKG)
• Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
After completing the program students can take the certification exam from the National Health Career Association (NHA) and become a Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
