The EMT-Basic program will provide you with the necessary skills to administer emergency prehospital care in common situations such as heart attacks, strokes and automobile accidents. Emphasis is placed on recognizing the symptoms of illness and injury and the application of proper procedures for emergency care.
The curriculum follows the guidelines established by the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, and includes Basic Life Saving (BLS) trauma care, medical/environmental operations and 7 practical exercises: patient assessment, airway management and oxygen administration, bleeding control and fracture management, traction splinting, spinal immobilization, shock management and defibrillation.
Students will take the NYS Emergency Medical Services written examination on June 16, 2022. Course fee includes textbooks and EMT Equipment Package.
