This introductory course on the basic procedures used for obtaining blood from veins and capillaries is available to students who have a current NYS Certified Nurse Aide certificate, RN or LPN license. Students will learn the skills and responsibilities of the professional phlebotomist. Topics include standard precautions, collecting blood specimens for diagnosis and treatment, performing capillary punctures and more.
This course is a combination of theory and practical training that includes 2 hours of class time dedicated to improving study skills to ensure your overall success in the classroom and in the field. Live venipunctures , conducted in class, will be a component of this course. Participating students and volunteer subjects must sign an "Acknowledgement of Risk" form. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the NHA Certification exam. Students with no previous healthcare certification/experience are required to complete Anatomy & Physiology class prior to registering for Phlebotomy or EKG Certificate Programs.
