Clinical Medical Assistant

The Clinical Medical Assistant program combines 129 hours of classroom training, along with a 120-hour externship to prepare students for employment as professional Clinical Medical Assistants dedicated to patient care management. Graduates will be equipped to assist physicians with examinations and treatments, and take medical histories, vital signs, phlebotomies, ekg's and other clinical procedures. In addition, 2 hours of class time will be dedicated to improving basic math skills relevant to the program. Students will also learn the basic medical laws and ethics as they relate to OSHA and the HIPAA standards that ensure safety in the work place and patient privacy.

The goal is to develop competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion from Hostos after completing 120 externship hours. Students will take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exam
