    COURSE: This 40-hour course is approved by the Florida Animal Control Association (FACA), DBA Florida Animal Protection and Advocacy Association (FAPAA), and meets the certification requirements under Florida Statute 828.27(4). Students must attend all sessions and pass the state exam with a score of 75% or higher to receive certification. Successful completion of this course is required before issuing cruelty violation citations and enhances job prospects in the animal protection field. Course registration includes all study materials, a certification of completion, and official listing in FAPAA’s database as a certified Animal Control Officer.

     

    NOTE: Students will receive FAPAA course books prior to the start of class and must agree to read and study the material prior to attending. Students must wear casual clothing; long pants and closed-toe shoes.

    COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is required by Florida Statute 316 for an officer to issue citations for motorists exceeding the speed limit, while the officer is using a speed measurement device.

    TOPICS TO BE COVERED INCLUDE: Laser and Radar Speed Measurement Theory, Equipment Operation, Calibration, Courtroom Testimony, Speed Offenses, Speed Estimation Techniques, Stationary and Moving Speed Measurement Techniques, and Practical Field Exercises.

    IMPORTANT NOTES:

    • Students must attend all sessions of the course
    • Students must bring and wear a DOT approved reflective vest during field exercises
    • Students must have an agency patrol vehicle
    • All students must bring a Radar and/or Laser unit for use during field exercises
    • Students are required to pass an end-of-course examination with a minimum of 80%
