COURSE: This comprehensive course is for internal affairs investigators and supervisors. Additionally, this course would be beneficial for those who hold an administrative role who wish to have a better understanding of how internal affairs investigations should be conducted and managed. This course provides an outline and step-by-step processes to conduct internal affairs investigations professionally, thoroughly, legally, objectively, and efficiently.

This 3-Day training is equivalent to the 5-day FDLE course.

INSTRUCTOR: Captain Dan Shivers began his law enforcement career with the Florida Department of Corrections in 2000. In 2004, he was hired by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office (FL) where he has spent the past 19 years. Captain Shivers has worked in nearly every facet of the Sheriff’s Office, to include patrol, judicial services (courts & civil), street crimes/gang unit, and investigations. In addition, Captain Shivers has supervised patrol shifts, detective units, and served as VSO’s Internal Affairs Commander. In 2022, he was promoted to captain, where he served as a patrol district commander and as the commander of VSO’s Youth Services section and as the Volusia County Schools’ Safety & Security Director. Personally, Captain Shivers lives in DeLand, FL with his wife and two children. Captain Shivers graduated Daytona State College with a bachelor’s degree in leadership and management and a Master’s Degree in law enforcement and public safety leadership from the University of San Diego
