COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is required by Florida Statute 316 for an officer to issue citations for motorists exceeding the speed limit, while the officer is using a speed measurement device.
TOPICS TO BE COVERED INCLUDE: Laser and Radar Speed Measurement Theory, Equipment Operation, Calibration, Courtroom Testimony, Speed Offenses, Speed Estimation Techniques, Stationary and Moving Speed Measurement Techniques, and Practical Field Exercises.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Students must attend all sessions of the course
- Students must bring and wear a DOT approved reflective vest during field exercises
- Students must have an agency patrol vehicle
- All students must bring a Radar and/or Laser unit for use during field exercises
- Students are required to pass an end-of-course examination with a minimum of 80%
