COURSE: This course is designed to provide the participant with an overview of the educational environment and strategies as it relates to school safety and school-based policing. This course includes the history, philosophy, strategies, and skills necessary to serve as a School Resource Officer.
TOPICS COVERED: Building rapport with students, teachers, and administrators, search and seizure laws and other juvenile-related laws, crime trend awareness, emergency management, campus security, student counseling and mediation, identifying and using outreach resources.
NOTE: Students should have successfully completed the basic recruit training program or have been exempted prior to taking this course. Students must attend all sessions of the course.
Students are required to pass an end-of-course examination with a minimum of 80%.
