COURSE: This specialized course provides law enforcement professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act, constitutional requirements, and current legal standards governing asset forfeiture. Participants will examine seizure and forfeiture procedures, Fourth, Fifth, and Eighth Amendment considerations, federal adoptive forfeiture and equitable sharing programs, and ethical standards outlined in the National Code of Professional Conduct for Asset Forfeiture. Emphasis is placed on protecting individual rights, ensuring legal compliance, maintaining accountability, and applying best practices in forfeiture investigations and proceedings.
NOTE: Students must attend all sessions of the course.
