COURSE: This course is designed to provide officers with an understanding of the dynamics of a crisis, effective response strategies, and tools for positive management of a crisis event, or persons with mental illness or substance abuse issues. This course is the same content as the former Crisis Intervention course.
TOPICS TO BE COVERED INCLUDE: Aspects of Mental Illness, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Crisis Theory and Intervention, Legal Aspects of Intervention, Assessment and Resolution, Substance Abuse, Child/Adolescent Issues, Crisis Negotiation Situations, Safety in Unique Situations, Elective Topics, and more.
NOTE: Students are required to attend all sessions of the course. Students are required pass an end-of-course examination with a minimum of 80%.
