COURSE: This 3-day class offers a daily panel of information from local school board officials, mental health professionals and community resources to best equip officers with specialized intervention skills and knowledge required for a first response to students in mental and substance abuse crisis.
TOPICS TO BE COVERED INCLUDE: Aspects of Mental Illness, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Crisis Theory and Intervention, Legal Aspects of Intervention, Assessment and Resolution, Substance Abuse, Child/Adolescent Issues, Crisis Negotiation Situations, Safety in Unique Situations, Elective Topics, and more.
NOTE: Students should have successfully completed the basic recruit training program or have been exempted prior to taking this course. Students must attend all sessions of the course.
