COURSE: This 80-hour advanced course prepares current and aspiring first-line supervisors with the leadership, communication, personnel management, planning, legal, ethical, and decision-making skills necessary to effectively lead within a criminal justice organization. Through case studies, practical exercises, role-play scenarios, and group discussions, participants will apply supervisory concepts to real-world challenges.
Leadership Capstone Project: Students will apply course concepts to a real-world criminal justice leadership challenge by preparing an Executive Leadership Brief and delivering a formal presentation. The project requires analysis of a supervisory or organizational issue and development of recommendations to improve effectiveness, performance, or service outcomes. This capstone project, together with the final examination, constitutes the student's final course grade. Some class time will be provided for project work; however, additional work outside of class may be required.
NOTE: Students must attend all sessions of the course. Daily attire must be business casual, professional dress, or the approved agency uniform only.
