Cultural Crossroads explores the development of New York City, driven by immigration, and how each wave of immigrants left its mark on NYC culture today.
After two classroom sessions, your third class will be spent on a walking tour in New York City! This WALKING TOUR will not cover tourist attractions in New York City. It is a day spent enjoying activities New Yorkers love that have been introduced via immigration. For example, students will eat on Indian row, sing karaoke in Koreatown, and dance salsa in Hell's Kitchen. Tour will conclude in midtown at approximately 5:30pm.
Program Fee: includes classroom sessions and walking tour in New York City.
Who should enroll: Anyone living in the tri-state area. Au Pairs and Retirees are especially welcome.
When you have successfully completed the course (including the tour), you will obtain a CERTIFICATE stating you have earned credit for 32 HOURS or 3.2 CEUs.
PLEASE NOTE: in order to receive any credit, you MUST attend all classes, complete all the assignments and go on the tour. Please make sure, before you sign up, that you are available on all three class dates. There are NO make-up assignments and NO excuses.
There is a mandatory pre-assignment for this course. You must complete this and bring it to the first class EVEN IF you register at the last minute. Pre-assignments are sent to students via email one week before the first class date, and again two days before the first class date.
