New York has been the setting for thousands of movies. Take a stroll through American culture as you learn more about films you love and are introduced to iconic classic films, too. This course will cover the city’s “melting-pot” reputation, delve into stories of crime, and explore themes of love and friendship. You’ll see clips from diverse films such as Do The Right Thing, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Gangs of New York, Ghostbusters, Sex and The City, When Harry Met Sally, and more. Excursions will tour famous locations throughout the city, as well as a tour of The Museum of the Moving Image. Each day the class will finish in a neighborhood full of opportunities for further exploration.
This course is designed for students who may already be familiar with New York City. Students will not visit iconic tourist attractions during class. However, students who are not from the New York City area are welcome to enroll, too.
