Houston: A Texas-Sized City - Now held online

Announcement: April 14, 2020:
In order to reflect CUNY's decision to hold distance-learning courses through the summer, Learning Across America will be continuing in an online format. Online courses will be held for the same number of credits as our in-person option. Please email us with questions at learningacrossamerica@bmcc.cuny.edu.

Texan pride is well known in the United States. This enormous state's history and its diverse population have a fascinating story to tell. Houston, one of the largest cities in the US, shows off this history and culture in amazing ways. In this class, you will learn about the city's founding, the way oil has shaped it, and the incredible diversity and culture of the area.

Upon successful completion of the course students earn credit for 36 educational hours.

Students will receive a pre-assignment as well as a final project.  The pre-assignment will be sent to students one week before the start of class.  The final project will be due one week after the last class meeting date.

Students who attend all classes and complete all the coursework will receive a certificate via email 10 days after the final class session.

Updated Course Information WS20:

Learning Across America has moved all courses through June 30, 2020 to a live online format due to COVID-19. Using this format, students can still attend class from their laptop, tablet, or smartphone at the convenience of their own home. We understand the disappointment of not being able to visit the city of your study, but our Learning Across America teachers have worked very hard to make the curriculum engaging and rich in this new format, and students have been responding very positively!

CREDIT HOURS
Your credit hours will remain unaffected. Once you have successfully completed the course and submitted your final project, you will receive a CERTIFICATE via email stating you have earned CREDIT for 36 hours or 3.6 CEUs (Continuing Education Units).

AUTOMATIC PARTIAL REFUND FOR STUDENTS
Since we are moving to an online format, your full tuition is now $275. Since we are moving to an online format, if you have already signed up for a class, you will receive an an automatic partial refund within 1 week of your first class date. Our travel partner Cultural Hi-Ways will be in touch with you to complete partial refunds. Please note that it may take 2-4 business days for the money to appear back in your account.

Your course will consist of a pre-assignment, independent coursework and final assignment as well as live online class sessions with your teacher/other au pairs at the following times:

Houston: Highlights & More

Class not currently scheduled
Please note that your pre-assignment will be emailed to you one week before your first online class session. You will receive details on how to log-in to your online class sessions one day before the start of the course.

Once the final online class session has concluded, you will have one week to submit your independent coursework and final assignment to your teacher.

Students are required to be present during all live online class sessions. However, your independent coursework can be completed at your leisure before the deadline one week after your online class ends.
