After our Spring term "On the Road Again" gig in the Rock, the Folkies will return to Conway for Fall term. Our class, as traditionally done, will be a weekly mix of topics, history, and performance chosen by that day’s presenter. In addition, we will continue to have both our faculty mini-concert day and our traditional hootenanny, featuring brave class member volunteers.

A lecture and demonstration/performance presentation format class in which the instructor introduces and demonstrates various music elements, piano styles, jazz pianist and developments from the rich history of the world of jazz piano from its early years of the 1900s to today’s artists, styles, influences and innovators. The class format also includes a 15-25 minute performance of 2 or 3 different pieces each week.

This will be a laboratory or studio class, not a lecture class. Participants will explore some fundamental techniques based on the "Yes, and" philosophy (which is collaborative, not competitive), which apply to improv performance as well as general communication. Mostly we're going to have fun and experience the liberation of "trust and support" in performance, and by extension, in life. Whether you have lots of experience or zero experience, this class is designed for everybody including those who just took the class this spring!
