Special guest speakers share their knowledge and expertise on a variety of topics that relate to wildlife & nature, the great outdoors, or the parks mission for finding inner peace. Join us the third Friday of each month for an outdoor and interactive learning experience. The learning experience topic is different each month.

The last thing you should do is begin the year with the notion that you should start a diet and join a gym!  ‘New You in 2022’ will show you how to make realistic, lasting, lifestyle changes. Dieting does not work, and gym memberships are often abandoned. Eating healthy and moving more are the keys to health, wellness, and happiness. On Top of the World, Fitness Director, Cammy Dennis and Fitness Supervisor, Jessica Pinkowski will highlight how to adopt healthy habits to help you find a New You in 2022!

Love is in the Air

Birdwatching or birding has become a popular recreational activity.  Sholom Park is home to several bird species, from hawks to swallow-tailed kites, red-bellied woodpeckers, and even the occasional bald eagle.  All you have to do is look up to discover that love is in the air and birds are everywhere.    Bird expert, Norm Lantz, completed courses in birding biology at Cornell Lab of Ornithology and has taught birding classes and seminars for the last 30 years.  Join him for a special birding presentation that ends with a birdwatching walk and experience the birds of Sholom Park.

Discover the joys of butterfly gardening with Patricia Burns, a certified UF/IFAS Extension Marion County Master Gardener since 2016 and avid gardener with a talent for raising Monarch butterflies.  Butterflies are more than beautiful, they are beneficial. They are great pollinators for fruits and flowers.   Learn what native flowering plants attract these delicate creatures and how to keep them coming back to reproduce in your backyard.

Florida-Friendly Fruit Trees

Florida may be known for citrus trees, but did you know you can successfully grow a variety of edible fruit trees, shrubs, and bushes right here in Central Florida.  Join Florida-Friendly Landscaping Agent Amanda Marek from the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, and learn how you can have a fruitful home garden. The presentation will end with an agricultural walk to see the edible trees, shrubs, and bushes growing at Sholom Park.

Mindful Music 

Kellyann Binkowski aka Lady Ann, is a musician, Reiki practitioner, meditation, and mindfulness facilitator. Her educational background includes a B.A. with a concentration in Music Therapy. As a Reiki practitioner, she recognizes the healing energy of sound, music, and vibration. Learn how music and vibration can help you reach a state of mindfulness for health and wellness with flute meditation, Charka toning and balancing, and mantra. She will also introduce the sounds of Kirtan music. Described as medicine for the soul, Kirtan is based on ancient chants and can help quiet the mind.
